Saint Petersburg man arrested after car accident

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After bags of pills fell out of his socks, a  man was charged with two counts possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Torrein Archer, 20, Saint Petersburg, was arrested March 24 by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Camino. On Wednesday at approximately 11:30 p.m., Camino was dispatched to Southeast 26th Street (Shady Rest) after a caller advised someone had crashed into a tree.

When he arrived, Camino saw a silver Ford Mustang. He ran the tag and discovered the tag was reported stolen out of Saint Petersburg.

Deputy Horace Nicholson was the primary deputy assigned to the crash. He and Camino spoke to the complainant who told them a man jumped out of the vehicle immediately after the crash and ran into the backyard of a nearby house. He said the man was throwing clothes and a suitcase in the backyard.

Deputy Carl Jones also assisted and walked over to the house where the suspect allegedly threw his belongings. He found a suitcase belonging to Archer.

According to his report, while speaking to Archer, Camino noticed a 2-inch bulge in his right sock and asked Archer to empty the sock. As Archer began to unfold the sock, three small plastic bags fell out. Two of the bags were filled with green pills, and the other bag held blue pills. The 54 green pills were identified as Alprazolam. The 20 blue pills were identified as Oxycodone Hydrochloride.

Archer reportedly claimed a friend gave him the pills. He was arrested and transported to the county jail. His bond was set at $20,000.
