Santa to visit county neighborhoods this week

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- After all the years of Santa visiting city neighborhoods, this year, he will be visiting many of the county neighborhoods too.

According to Captain Justin Hazellief of Okeechobee County Fire Rescue, the topic of Santa on the fire truck was raised during a recent county commissioners' meeting. He said they knew the city police department took care of bringing Santa to the city neighborhoods this year, and the county decided to join in the fun by bringing Santa to some of the more densely populated areas of the county.   "There may be some overlap with the areas the city visited, but our intention is to bring Santa to the areas he usually does not visit," said Hazellief.

Beginninig tonight, keep an eye out for a visit from Jolly Old Saint Nick. He will be visiting from 6 until 8 p.m. as follows:

Dec. 20: NE section,
Dec. 21: NW section,
Dec. 22: SW section and
Dec. 23: SE section.

According to Hazellief, they will be visiting Douglas Park, Oak Park, Dewberry Gardens, Treasure Island, etc. Unfortunately, they do not have the time or resources to travel every road in the county but will be hitting those that are not too far out.

All of the firefighters were excited about the opportunity to volunteer their time driving the truck carrying Santa.

"We hope it can grow from this in the future," said Hazellief.
