Soil & Water Conservation District hosts land judging contest

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- The Okeechobee Soil & Water Conservation District coordinated a three-county land judging contest on March 1 with help from  the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Serve. Butler Farms hosted the contest.

At these contests, students observe and interpret the soil in order to make wise land use decisions regarding farming, conservation, and even homesite preparation. Best of luck to these teams from Okeechobee, Clewiston, and Avon Park as they advance to the State contest!

The Okeechobee Brahman Future Farmers of America (team) placed first in the contest. Clewiston FFA placed second, Avon Park FFA placed third.

Awards were also given for high score individuals.
