Okeechobee man accused of first-degree murder

OKEECHOBEE — Early Monday morning, Jan. 16, deputies with the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office discovered a deceased individual in a wooded area off NE 14th Avenue in the Douglas Park subdivision of Okeechobee County.

The deceased’s identity is known; however, the family has enacted Marcy’s Law; therefore, the identity will not be revealed.

The deceased was the victim of a criminal act. The mechanism of death will not be released at this time.

On Friday, June 2,  the subsequent follow-up investigation led to arrest warrants being issued charging James Doheny, 40, of Okeechobee for:

•  One count of accessory after the fact to first degree murder, FS 782.04, Bond: $250,000.

• One count of destroying/tampering with or tabricating physical evidence, FS 918.13, Bond$10,000.

• One count of mishandling dead human remains, FS 497.386, Bond $5,000.

The investigation is continuing.
