Teen is accused of trying to run people over with his truck

OKEECHOBEE — A 17-year-old was accused of deliberately trying to run others over with his truck a few weeks ago.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Porter responded to a complaint in reference to a reckless driver. According to Porter’s report, Benjamin Scott, while driving an F-150, allegedly tried to run over two people before leaving the area. One of the complainants told Porter he was riding his moped on Northwest 80th Avenue when the F-150 swerved to hit him, running him off the road. The complainant turned down Northwest 89th Court to get away from him, but Scott followed him and attempted to hit him again. The complainant went to someone else’s home to get help, and when that person came out of the house, Scott tried to hit him too. The complainant believes Scott is angry at him for speaking to Scott’s girlfriend.

Both complainants said they were in fear for their lives and wished to press charges.

Scott was located and arrested on March 1. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He was turned over to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
