Two arrested in connection with murder

OKEECHOBEE — On April 26, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 200 block of Northeast 14th Avenue in reference to a body in the street. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, 24-year-old Tohermain Rosier. He was pronounced deceased by Okeechobee County Fire Rescue.

The case was turned over to Detective Dale LaFlam, and after investigation, Derrick Levi Clay, 31, and Cheyenne Mackenzie Smith, 25, were arrested. Clay was charged with murder and Smith was charged with accessory after the fact.

Follow-up investigation determined that an apparent argument involving illegal narcotics, led to the death of Mr. Rosier.

An autopsy report conducted by Medical Examiner’s Office District 19 determined that he died after being stabbed in the chest.

Homicide detectives do not believe this was a random attack but are asking anyone with information to call Detective Dale La Flam at (863)763-3117, ext. 5032.

Detectives will now work with the State Attorney’s office as the case moves forward

Derrick Levi Clay remains in the Okeechobee County Jail charged with one count of Murder, with No Bond.

Cheyenne Smith remains in the Okeechobee County Jail charged with one count of Accessory After the Fact. Bond was set at $100,000.00.

This is an active investigation.
