OKEECHOBEE — Two Okeechobee County businesses are seeking zoning changes in order to expand their businesses on adjacent properties. Public hearings for both zoning changes are on the agenda for the Sept. 6 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.
• Amazon Sheds and Carports LLC is requesting a change in zoning from Agriculture to Heavy Commercial for a 1 acre parcel at 2973 US Highway 441 N, to the south of NW 30th Lane. The applicant wishes to expand their business, Mid-State Sheds. Their current business is on a 0.7 acre parcel at the intersection of N.W. 30th Lane and U.S. 441. The applicant has now acquired the 1-acre parcel to the south and wishes to relocate the business to that property.
• Ameri-Recreational Sports LLC is requesting a change in zoning from Residential Mixed to Heavy Commerical for a 1.8 acre parcel north of the existing ARS PowerSports business, 1319 State Road 70 E. According to the staff report, the current business, ARS Powersports, is now an entire block of approximately 1.7 acres in Riverside Park Subdivision, on the north side of State Road 70 E, immediately to the east of the city limit boundary. The property is developed with a sales lot and repair facility for ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, watercraft, trailers and other similar items. The sales and display building is about 4,000 square feet with frontage on SR 70. To the rear is a 9,000 square foot building used for the repair business. The business has acquired the block to the north and wishes to expand their business. Accordingly, the applicant is requesting a change in zoning and a special exception to accommodate the expansion.
The meeting will be held in the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street, starting at 9 a.m.
