OKEECHOBEE — After reportedly hitting one deputy with his head and spitting on another, 25-year-old Zavius Long was arrested and charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.

Two days later, Ana Baza Urbina, age 28, was also charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.

On Oct. 23 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Paladino responded to the county jail in reference to a battery complaint.

When Deputy Paladino arrived, he was advised Long, who is an inmate of the jail, was being combative. Several deputies attempted to subdue Long and get him into a restraint chair, but he actively resisted. Long reportedly used the back of his head to strike one officer and then spit in the face of another.

Deputy Paladino was able to view and confirm the incident on video surveillance

Long’s bond was set at $10,000.

Urbina was charged after she reportedly spit in the face of one deputy and scratched another.

Deputy Francisco Hernandez responded to the jail in reference to a battery complaint at approximately 5 a.m. When he arrived, he was told Urbina, who had been in a restraint chair, became combative after she was released from the chair. The surveillance video reportedly shows Urbina become combative and then spit in the face of a deputy. Earlier, Urbina reportedly scratched a deputy as he was attempting to get her out of her cell.
