UF/IFAS hosts English, Spanish COVID-19 safety webinars for farm labor supervisors to protect workers

Posted

IMMOKALEE -- By popular demand, UF/IFAS experts at the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center will hold bilingual webinars later this month titled, ‘Farm Labor Supervisor COVID-19 Safety UPDATES: How to Reduce Risks and Protect Your People.’

The one-hour long, FREE, webinars in English are offered May 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. or May 20 from 1 to 2 p.m.; the webinars in Spanish are offered May 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. or May 26 from 1 to 2 p.m..

The goal is to give farm-labor supervisors the most recent data on how agricultural workers can continue to stay safe in the face of COVID-19. Last fall, UF/IFAS experts conducted webinars in English and Spanish, and more than 800 ag workers, supervisors and farmers tuned in. Extension agents from other states (Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Texas) were so impressed by the turnout at the fall webinars that UF/IFAS is sharing the new presentations with attendees across the region.

Data presented at the webinars comes from the Center for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Health, and related agencies and organizations. With the newest webinars, UF/IFAS experts hope to educate the audience so supervisors can continue to provide safe, healthy work environments for farm owners, supervisors, and their workers, while keeping an eye on the agribusiness bottom line and buyer expectations.
