Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After a woman was reportedly seen shooting up drugs in the restroom of the tax collector’s office, the witness called 911. Okeechobee City Police Officer Ramon Liberato responded to the call on March 17 at approximately 3 p.m. The complainant told dispatch there was a woman sitting on the floor in the restroom shooting up narcotics into her leg.

Celeste Watford, tax collector told Liberato she wanted the woman removed from the premises and trespassed.

After ascertaining there was no one else in the restroom, Liberato announced himself and entered. The arrest report states he found Megan Jones, 31, sitting on the ground, However, when he told her she needed to leave the bathroom, she told him she was busy using the toilet. Liberato told her he could see her sitting on the floor, and she got up, sat on the toilet and said, “I am using the bathroom now. I was sitting on the ground because I was dizzy.” After several minutes trying to persuade Jones to come out of the stall, Detective Savanna Smith entered the stall and escorted her out.

A search of the two bags belonging to Jones reportedly yielded white powder, later determined to be methamphetamine, a loaded syringe, two empty syringes, two mini torches, three straws, a syringe plunger, a small baggy containing white powder residue and several spoons with white powder residue on them.

Jones was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $10,750.
