Woman arrested in Walgreens' drive-thru

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — A local woman was arrested in the Walgreens’ drive thru April 1 just before 10 p.m. after dispatch received a call regarding a stolen vehicle, City Police Officer Jessica Francis was dispatched to the Travelers’ Inn. The owner of the vehicle told dispatch he was in Tampa but had loaned his vehicle to a friend. He said the friend called him and told him a woman took the car. The owner began tracking the vehicle using an app on his phone. He said the app gave the vehicle’s location as the Travelers’ Inn, but by the time Francis arrived at the motel, the vehicle had moved and was headed south. They were able to locate the car in the drive thru lane at Walgreens and had the occupants step out of the vehicle.

The driver, Nicole Jones, 37, reportedly told Francis a man loaned her the car, and she was supposed to pick him up later and take him back to Tampa. She said she did not know the man in the car with her but was giving him a ride to Walgreens.

A search of the vehicle and of Jones’ purse reportedly revealed methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and Xanax which Jones did not have a prescription for.

Jones was charged with driving without a license, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. She was not charged with auto theft. Her bond was set at $36,000.

The man with her in the vehicle was not charged and was released from the scene. The car was impounded until the owner could claim it.
