Woman charged with DUI after a crash

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After a traffic accident, a local woman was charged with DUI crash with property damage. Marsha Mayer, 53, Southeast Eighth Street, was arrested March 29 by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Albaro Arana at approximately 10 a.m.

On March 9 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Deputy Christopher Tullio was dispatched to Southeast Eighth Avenue after a call regarding an impaired driver. When he arrived, he found a white Chevrolet SUV parked in the middle of the road. The vehicle had a shredded, blown out rear tire. Mayer was receiving aid from Okeechobee County Fire Rescue. According to the report, Mayer appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She had slurred speech and had an odor of alcohol on her breath. She appeared to be in a trance and would only say, “They killed my cat.” Mayer was transported to Raulerson Hospital for treatment.

A witness who lived nearby told deputies a friend knocked on his door and told him someone had just hit his gate. The neighbor told him he saw the person hit the gate and then back up and hit another vehicle. After hitting the vehicle, she pulled out into the middle of the road and parked. One of the men said he attempted to confront the woman, but she exited the vehicle, screaming and holding a large pair of scissors. She then began cutting her wrist with them, so he backed away and called 911.

At the hospital, Mayer reportedly said, “I have been drinking wine and taking Xanax all day.”

Mayer’s bond was set at $1,000.
