YMS softball rallies for win over OMS

Posted

OKEECHOBEE- After falling behind in the early going, Yearling Middle School rallied to beat Osceola Middle School 15-7 on March 25.

OMS jumped out to an 7-3 lead in the bottom of the second and managed to take advantage of any mistakes the Yearling squad made on defense.  But the YMS bats were just too much to overcome.

In the top of the third back-to-back lasers to center field by Kamryn Hackett and Lindy Harwas and a walk by Landi Kirton loaded the bases for Lotti Anderson. Anderson delivered a two RBI blast to center field to bring the score to 7-5.

Next Samantha McCoy scored an RBI, followed by Jayda Rochelle scoring two on a pop-up double to shallow left field. That gave Yearling the 8-7 lead. But with how quickly Osceola had scored multiple runs in the second inning, you couldn’t help but feel that YMS was going to need a few insurance runs to give themselves some breathing room.

Yearling kept their foot on the gas and in the top of the fourth Hackett hit an inside-the-park homerun bomb to deep left field, scoring two RBIs in the process and putting YMS up 15-7.

The win gives YMS the season sweep of their cross-town rivals. Back on Feb. 23 Yearling beat Osceola 6-3. In that game OMS also jumped out to an early lead, but in similar fashion to the most recent game, YMS rallied thanks in part to their offensive firepower. Rochelle had her own inside-the-park homerun in that game.
