30-year-old LaBelle man dies in crash

LABELLE — According to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at approximately 6:14 a.m., a sedan being driven by a 30-year-old LaBelle man was traveling west on State Road 80 in the outside lane, 0.4 miles east of Phillips Road. A moped, being driven by another 30-year-old LaBelle man, with a 30-year-old male passenger, also of LaBelle, was traveling west on State Road 80 in the outside lane in front of the sedan.

The front right of the sedan collided with the rear of the moped. After the collision, the driver of the moped and his passenger separated from the vehicle. The sedan continued west and came to a controlled stop on the north shoulder of State Road 80.

The driver of the moped was pronounced deceased on the scene and the passenger of the moped was transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the crash. The driver of the sedan was not inured.

This crash remains under investigation.
