Accused Walmart shoplifter was out on bond for other charges

Posted

OKEECHOBEE - While out on bond, a local woman was accused of shoplifting at Walmart twice. Jasmine Pounds, 22, was arrested Feb. 4 by Okeechobee City Police Officer Ramon Liberato and charged with grand theft.

The 22-year-old has been arrested multiple times beginning in 2019 when she was charged with possession of cocaine. She was offered the opportunity to attend drug court but refused, and that case is still in the courts. She was released on a bond of $5,000.

In July of 2020, she was charged with battery when she reportedly slapped her boyfriend. Pounds was living with both the boyfriend and his wife at the time and was pregnant with the boyfriend’s child. The boyfriend said he called the law because he was tired of the violence, and he does not believe in hitting women so had no other choice but to call 911. This charge was later dropped.

On Feb. 2, Pounds was arrested by Okeechobee City Police Officer Cody Daigneault and charged with petit theft after reportedly walking into Walmart and taking a black hoodie from its packaging and putting it on. She is accused of then taking an electric hairbrush from its packaging and putting it in the pocket of the hoodie. Afterwards, she reportedly went to the self checkout and failed to pay for several items before attempting to leave the store. She was stopped by asset protection employees at the door.

When asked if she knew why she was in the asset protection office, she reportedly said, “I stole stuff.” Pounds was trespassed from Walmart at that time and transported to the county jail. Her bond was set at $750.

On Feb. 4, Pounds was charged with grand theft after Liberato was told that the woman Daigneault had arrested two days earlier was the woman Liberato was looking for in connection with a shoplifting case he was working on.

On Jan. 31, Liberato was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifting complaint. When he arrived, he was informed by asset protection that a female came into the store and stole several items. They told him she walked around the store placing things in her cart and then put things in a black bag she had in her cart. She left the store without paying and got into a Nissan Rogue. The total for the stolen items was $767.47 elevating the charge to grand theft.

On Feb. 4, Liberato called Pounds to ask her to come in to the station and she agreed. When asked if she had been in Walmart on Jan. 29, she reportedly told him she had been there on the 1st but not the 29th. Liberato showed her photographs of herself in Walmart on the 29th, and she reportedly told him she was there after all. She was buying dog food. When he asked if she stole anything, she requested a lawyer.

As she was being processed at the jail, she reportedly told a deputy that they got her again. Her bond in this case was set at $1,000.
