BELLE GLADE — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s Mu Rho Omega Chapter hosted a virtual HBCU for Life Trivia Night on Sept. 21. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. continues to focus on education with an emphasis on historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Chapters are tasked with promoting and marketing historically black colleges and universities and encourage students to attend HBCUs as a sustainability measure.

The HBCU for Life Trivia Night was conducted to create a fun and exciting way to learn about HBCUs. Contestants from the community participated in this virtual event. The winners of the Trivia Night were as follows: third place winner was Anthony Parrish, second place winner Gena Pyfrom, first place winner Mariya Brown. All winners received gifts cards.

Recognizing that HBCU funding is one of the primary obstacles that threaten the long-term growth and survival of HBCUs, Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters and members are encouraged to financially support HBCUs. The HBCU for Life Trivia Night first place winner, Mariya Brown, was asked to provide the name of the HBCU she wished for the Mu Rho Omega Chapter to donate to. She selected the illustrious Florida Memorial University. The Mu Rho Omega Chapter will be forwarding a check to Florida Memorial University.

Mu Rho Omega would like to extend a special thanks to the Committee Co-Chairmen Karen Abrams, Shundra Dowers and Carla Lewis for organizing this event. Mu Rho Omega would also like to thank sorority members as well as members of the community for their participation.
