CLEWISTON -- Lake Okeechobee News reached out to candidates running for City of Clewiston Board of Commissioners in the Nov. 8 general election.

Candidates were invited to respond to the same questions regarding their candidacy.

Below are the responses from Barbara Edmonds, who is running for city commissioner:

  1. Why are you running for a city commission seat?
I believe to keep our city growing we need a strong city and communication lines open between the citizens and city government ... I feel it is important to keep our city growing forward,  let’s work together on our issues and help our small businesses grow and their families thrive and enjoy the assets we have here in America’s Sweetest Town.
  1. What do you think are the most important issues in Clewiston today and how will you address them should you win the election?
The most important issues concerning our city today are small business, new entrepreneurs and affordable housing.
  1. What is your experience in public service?
I have owned and operated a few businesses in our community which have fared well.  I started Main Street Subs to bring quality products and service to our sweetest town.  I currently own and operate Barbara’s Hair Salon on Bond Street.
  1. Include any background here – education, family, city of residence, public service – that you feel is relevant to your candidacy.
I have served on the community redevelopment board and now serve on the Chamber of Commerce,  Hendry County  Cattle Women Association and the Clewiston Sugar Festival.
I am a Clewiston High School Graduate and West Technical Graduate, Cosmetology.
Also I am a lifelong resident of Clewiston of which my husband and I have raised our family.
