Big Lake Athlete of the Week: Isabella Derigo

Posted

Okeechobee High School senior Isabella Derigo is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the OHS tennis team.

Derigo defeated Alexis Moore of John Carroll  Catholic on March 29  6-2 in their first set, and  6-1 in their second set. In doubles Derigo and fellow senior Kiersten Sales defeated Moore and Gabriella Lombardi 8-1. Back on March 9 she  defeated Sebastian River’s Morgan Griffiths 11-9 in  a dramatic match that first ended in a 8-8 tie and had to go into extra sets.

Overall the Lady Brahman tennis team is 11-3 this season. The OHS girls tennis  team is coming off back-to-back district championships.

Last season Derigo and B’ellana  Schlosser earned a spot  in the Florida state  tennis finals. Both were victorious in the first  two rounds of the state  tournament and advanced to the semifinals. Isabella and Schlosser combined to earn the district championship in doubles that season.

Those wins lasts season advanced the Lady Brahmans to the regional  tournament, which was  hosted in Okeechobee. There the girls defeated  Melbourne High School 4-1  in the regional semifinals  and finished as regional runners-up following a close 4-3 loss to Vierra in the finals.
