Big Lake Athlete of the Week: Johnny Crawford III

Posted

Clewiston senior running back Johnny Crawford III is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ win against Cypress Lake on Oct. 8.

Crawford opened the game with an explosive 80-yard touchdown run on the Tigers’ first play on offense, immediately setting the tone in Clewiston’s 31-14 win.

This is actually Crawford’s second game in a row where he took the opening handoff on offense to the house. On Oct. 1 he tore through the Avon Park defense, breaking multiple tackles en route to a 74-yard touchdown. Crawford had seven carries for 114 yards and three touchdowns against Avon Park.

He’s played a key role on a Clewiston offense with weapons at every position. Crawford’s hard-nosed running early in games helps open up opportunities for Clewiston quarterback Zomarion Harper and wide receivers Chauncy Cobb and  Kenari Wilcher.

Through the four games Clewiston has played thus far, Crawford has 367 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Tigers will need both Crawford and the offense to keep producing as they hit the final slate of regular season games. Coming up are tough opponents like Pahokee and Cardinal Newman, who should provide a good test for Clewiston.
