Okeechobee High School senior Laci Prescott is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Lady Brahman varsity softball team.
During Okeechobee’s game against Fort Pierce Central, Prescott’s play on both offense and defense helped the Lady Brahmans secure a win. One series of plays in particular proved to be a crucial turning point in the game.
In the top of the fifth inning the Lady Brahmans were leading 10-7. But the Lady Cobras had loaded the bases with two outs and were threatening to score. Prescott was tapped to relieve freshman Lilly Larson on the pitcher’s mound. Prescott struck out Fort Pierce Central’s lead off batter to get the third out and retire the side.
In the bottom of that same inning, Lexi Thomas and Mallory Collier both singled which gave Okeechobee two runners on base. Then, Prescott stepped up to bat and hit a blast over the right field fence for a three-run home run. It was Prescott’s first home run of the season.
In one inning Prescott forced the Lady Cobras to strand three base runners and hit a three-run home run to put Okeechobee up 13-7.
Prescott has 15 RBIs and has hit six doubles this season. On the pitcher’s mound she has a 2.89 ERA and has struck out 19 batters so for this season for the Lady Brahmans.
Prescott and the Lady Brahmans have two home games coming up. Okeechobee hosts South Fork on April 13 and Lincoln Park Academy on April 17.
