Okeechobee High School senior Morgan Tucker is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Lady Brahman varsity basketball team.
Morgan helped guide the Lady Brahmans to a 68-33 win over the Martin County Lady Tigers on Jan. 11. She led the team in scoring with a career-high 27 points. Morgan also broke the school record for most three-pointers in a game with seven.
Okeechobee head coach Jovanny Torres was aware of the record because it had just been broken two years ago by another one of his players, Alkeecia Clayton.
“It was nerve-wracking because we knew she was close after the fourth, so we started setting up plays specifically for her,” said Torres. “ Her teammates on the bench kept screaming ‘get it to Morgan’. She was on fire and it was so fun to watch.”
Tucker nearly had eight three-pointers, but one of her shots bounced back out of the basket after falling partly through.
“Morgan is one of the hardest-working kids I’ve ever met,” continued Torres. “This was well deserved and both her teammates and I were so excited to witness it.”
The Lady Brahmans are now 14-4 and continue to hold the number one spot in their district as the playoffs approach. They host their next home game on Jan. 20 in Okeechobee against Santaluces.
