Okeechobee High School junior Rylie Tucker is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Lady Brahman varsity softball team.
Tucker played a key role in Okeechobee’s 5-4 comeback victory over Vero Beach on March 1. The Lady Brahmans were trailing for most of the game after Vero Beach went up 2-0 in the top of the second inning. Okeechobee inched closer with a run in the fifth inning, but the Lady Brahmans took the lead in the sixth inning thanks in part to a 3-run RBI double by Tucker.
Tucker also led the Lady Brahmans in hits during their 15-0 blowout win over Fort Pierce Central on March 8. Overall, she leads Okeechobee in RBIs with 8 through their first six games this season.
The Lady Brahmans are coming off a 12-9 record last season which saw them advance to the district championship. Ultimately, Okeechobee fell in that championship to South Fork 3-0. Previously, OHS softball had won district championships in back-to-back seasons, including a 5-4 victory over that same South Fork squad.
The Lady Brahmans will be back home at OHS for a rematch against Fort Pierce Central on April 5.
