OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee High School sophomore Anastasia White and junior Charlie Armstrong are this week’s Big Lake Athletes of the Week for their performance with the Brahman wrestling program.

White is a district champion for the OHS girls wrestling team and finished as runner-up in the regional tournament. The Florida High School Athletic Association voted to officially sanction girls wrestling this year, which means White is now the first girl to ever qualify for the state tournament for the wrestling team in Okeechobee.

Armstrong is on a streak of back-to-back-to-back district championships. He won districts in his first year as a freshman, then repeated in his sophomore year. On Feb. 15 at the district tournament held at Suncoast High School, he pulled off the trifecta and repeated as a district champion again. He now advances to the regional tournament where he has finished runner-up as both a freshman and sophomore.

Armstrong is one of ten Brahman boys wrestlers competing for a chance to advance to the state tournament. Clayton Wolf, Sonny Hancock, and Jace Brown were all crowned district champion in their weight classes. While Christian Martinez, Jose Monrroy, and Wesley Emerson were runners-up, Braxton Lewis took third place, and Brandon Perez and Thomas Crum placed fourth.

All 10 wrestlers will now advance to the regional tournament scheduled for Feb. 25-26.
