Okeechobee High School junior Isabella Derigo and senior B’ellana Schlosser are this week’s Big Lake Athletes of the Week for their performance on the OHS tennis team.

Both Isabella and B’ellana have earned a spot in the Florida state tennis finals happening this week in Altamonte Springs. On April 25 both were victorious in the first two rounds of the state tournament and advanced to the semifinals.

The Lady Brahman tennis team secured back-to-back district championships this year, defeating Martin County 15-14. B’ellana was named the district champion in singles, while B’ellana and Isabella combined to earn the district championship in doubles.

Those wins advanced the Lady Brahmans to the regional tournament, which was hosted in Okeechobee. There the girls defeated Melbourne High School 4-1 in the regional semi-finals and finished as regional runners-up following a close 4-3 loss to Vierra in the finals.

Now, at the state tournament, B’ellana is competing in the singles bracket, as well as the doubles bracket with Isabella.
