Big O Teen Anglers wrap up their 2020 season

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — The Big O’ Teen Anglers wrapped up their 2020 season with their annual end of the year banquet. This year’s banquet took place at Pogey’s Family Restaurant where anglers, families and boat captains enjoyed a delicious meal.

Dinner found all of the family, friends, and captains enjoying a vast array of potluck dishes, casseroles, and wonderful pulled pork. The club would like to give an extra special thank you to Doug and Sandy Vest of Pogey’s for allowing the use of their restaurant for the banquet this year as well as for the meetings throughout the year. After mealtime, the awards banquet was held. Tanner Seabolt was named 2019 Angler of the Year with 450 points and 58.11 pounds of fish caught. Second place went to Korbyn Lewis with 432 points and 33.86 pounds. Taking third pace was Lane Davis with 395 points and 44.75 pounds. The Big Fish Award went to Matthew May with a 6.43 pound fish!

And let’s not forget who won the “Smallest Fish” award this year, Ragyn Mohney 0.34 pounds.

Each year one of the boat captains receives a special award for his/her boat catching the most weight. This year that award went to Terry Seabolt with a nice total catch of 79.05 pounds. Congratulations Terry! The kid’s love fishing with you!!

The club, the anglers, and their parents would like to thank the following sponsors for our 2020 season: Lake Okeechobee News, Garrard Bait & Tackle, Walpole, Pogey’s Restaurant, Lakeshore Marine, Cam’s Mobile Marine, Eli’s Western Wear, Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters, Triton Drywall Inc, Fast Break, and Brahman Theaters III,

The club members know and recognize that without the help and generosity of the above-mentioned sponsors, the club, the anglers, and end of the year banquet simply wouldn’t be possible. These businesses pour time, energy, and their own money into future generations of anglers.

The club would also like to thank the following 2020 volunteer boat captains: Herman Parker, Jim Newell, Billy Ellerbee, Larry Wise, Dan Powell, Paul Hare, Ed French, Marc Williams, David Mohney, Raul Martinez, Buster McMillan, Terry Seabolt and Larry Wise.

The captains are vital to the success of the club and the future of responsible fishing on the lake and surrounding lakes. They too, give of themselves voluntarily and tirelessly and give many of our anglers an opportunity they would otherwise never have.

Finally, the club would like to thank those in the local community who come out to show support at fundraising events. Without the sponsors’ and public’s generosity, this club would not be able to continue to mentor these wonderful children and young adults.

The 2021 Season will begin on Jan. 30, 2021, at Okee-Tantie Park. Weigh-ins are at 1 p.m., so if you think your child would be interested in joining a great youth fishing club, bring them to see a weigh-in or contact Danielle at bota.danielle@gmail.com or 561-436-8491. The kids are excited to start another year. Pick up the newspaper and read about their successes each month.
