Brighton Baptist Church pastor steps down

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- Twenty four years after stepping behind the pulpit of Brighton Baptist Church, Pastor Calvin Fryar is stepping down. In  June of 1997 a family friend, Fern Griffin, asked Fryar if he would be willing to serve as interim pastor out at Brighton Baptist, and before the year ended he became the official pastor.

Fryar has had some health issues in recent years and feels led to step down but is hoping someone will take his place. "Really, the best man for the job would speak Spanish and English," he said. "There are a lot of folks out there now who only speak Spanish, and I can't help them much."

The church will remain open as they search for a pastor with fellow preachers from the community filling the pulpit.

Meanwhile, Fryar will not be resting on his laurels. He has been online since the beginning of covid and plans to continue as "The Voice of Brighton."  Look for him online each Sunday morning live.
