Burglary suspect bitten by K-9 during arrest

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Two men were reportedly caught in the act of burglarizing a home on Northwest 115th Drive on Sunday.

Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Horace Nicholson was dispatched to the scene after a homeowner called 911 to say her neighbor witnessed her home being broken into. Dispatch advised Nicholson a gray Ford Explorer had been seen leaving the property. The neighbor said she saw the duo take four all-terrain tires from the victim’s property.

The suspects were identified as Justin Albritton and Phillip Hoy.

When a local detective located the car on Northeast 14th Avenue, he reportedly found the four tires inside the Explorer.

As Nicholson arrived at the residence, dispatch notified him one of the suspects, Phillip Hoy, was still inside the home. This was confirmed by the homeowner as she checked her home surveillance.

After backup arrived, deputies surrounded the home and entered. The report notes Hoy was bitten by K-9 Shiva after refusing to give himself up. He was transported to Raulerson Hospital and later charged with resisting arrest without violence, trespass after warning, burglary of a dwelling and petit theft.

Albritton was charged with burglary of a dwelling and petit theft. His bond was set at $3,000.
