LABELLE — Snow is rare in South Florida, unless you head on over to one of LaBelle’s newest small businesses: Pelican’s SnoBalls! Recently, this little shop opened up, on Yeomans Avenue, and there has been a flurry of activity at their windows ever since.

Not your normal, everyday snow cones, these are soft and fluffy, snow balls topped with bold flavors, delightful decorations, and with countless creative combination options. Pelican’s SnoBalls is a big hit with kids and adults.

“We offer over 100 flavors and thousands of combinations, toppings, candies, and even soft serve icecream that you can stuff any Snoball with! Our flavors are gluten free, no peanuts, no high fructose corn syrup, some with no dyes or colors and even sugar free flavors so there is something for everyone!” said owners, Chris and Brandi Cooper. “For the month of December we have special Christmas flavors out like the Grinch, and Smores for example. In February, we are planning an entire chocolate month of specials like chocolate covered strawberry flavor, twix flavor, chocolate marshmallow, etc.”

Both owners are deeply connected to the community and enjoy raising their family in LaBelle. “I love that this community is growing but still a close knit community. When someone is struggling or a tragedy occurs, everyone pulls together to help and support each other. It’s like a big family,” Brandi said. “We hope to be a staple in our community and to be here for years and years to come.”

The shop currently employs eight staff, including two of their children. Along with overseeing the day-to-day operations of their new business, the duo are also youth pastors at Christ Central. Brandi can even be found at Labelle High School every Thursday morning, praying at the pole with the students, “I love talking to the kids in the morning and wishing them a good day. I’ve met a lot of kids through prayer at the pole that way and they recognize me and come to me when they see me now. I love it!”

“We also have a prayer box that is outside of our building. Every night we unlock it to read the prayer requests that have been placed in the box,” Brandi said. “My husband and I pray over each and everyone of those cards. It means a lot to us to get to do that for the people of Labelle. This business is a type of ministry for us.”

Chris was born in Okeechobee, and raised in Labelle his entire life. Brandi was born in South Carolina and raised in Lehigh, “Labelle has been our home since we met and married 13 years ago and we are now raising our own children here,” said Brandi. “We wanted to open our business in Labelle because we wanted to offer a safe, fun and family friendly place where families and teens can come to hang out and enjoy an amazing treat! There isn’t much for kids to do in Labelle so we thought this would be a perfect solution! It took us 3 years to find the perfect location before we were finally able to start the opening process.”

“I wanted to make sure it was super bright and happy. The path leading up to the order window I like to call the colorful path to happiness. I want people to come to our business and smile, and be at their new favorite happy place,” Brandi explained. “After seeing all the bright fun colors, I want them to see a friendly face at the window. I want people to feel welcomed and loved when they come to order a SnoBall.”

“Our goal is to eventually have a mobile unit so we can take our amazing SnoBalls to events like birthday parties, schools, etc.! We are always getting new flavors and specials each month,” Brandi said with excitement. “We also currently have Christmas Stocking Stuffers which are adorable! They are little santa boxes filled with $25.00 of pelican bucks that only cost $20.00! Its our version of a gift card that saves you $5.00!”
