ALZ STARS program - The Warning signs of Alzheimer’s are often subtle but recognizing them can lead to an early diagnosis and improve quality of life. Come learn more on June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 55 S Parrott Ave.

The Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Alzheimer’s Association have partnered to create the ALZ STARS program, a joint initiative to bring increased awareness of dementia and the resources available to Floridians.

This short program will help you:
• Identify warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other dementia,
• take steps to receive an accurate diagnosis,

• understand simple communication tips,
• access additional resources and more.

Our June Afterhours is being sponsored by the city of Okeechobee and will be held at the Okeechobee County Library, 206 SW 16th St. from 5 until 6:30 p.m. on June 14. Have you ever had the experience of speed dating? No? Well this will be a fun event where instead of speed dating, we will be speed networking! A great way for each of us to learn a little more about each person in attendance. We will have cards made up with questions that you can use to ask, or you can prepare some ahead of time, or just use whatever questions comes to mind as you meet them. It’s your choice, just make it fun and informative. Don’t miss out, plan to come join in the speed networking! We will start a little after 5 p.m. to give everyone time to speed through the conversations with each one attending. I’ll be ringing the bell as you move to the next person. Looking forward to seeing you on the 14th at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

Ribbon cutting/Grand Opening for “Granny’s Ceramics and Crafts” located at 1033 Hunter Road Buckhead Ridge, on Thursday, June 16 at 5 p.m. Be sure and stop by and welcome Martha Reyes as she opens her new business to the community and check out all of her great ceramic, craft items, mugs, t-shirts and much more. Light refreshments will be available.

The United Way of St. Lucie & Okeechobee will host the Summer Business Exchange Lunch on Wednesday, June 29, and share exciting news about investments made to support organizations and residents in Okeechobee County. Join Jessica Parrish, President & CEO for the United Way, and members of the organization’s board as they award grant funds to strengthen Okeechobee County and encourage residents to Live United through a network of services and partners. Register early at www.okeechobeebusiness.com. Cost of lunch will be $18 until June 23 and will be $20 after. Doors will open at 11:30 p.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. The program will begin at noon. Be sure and mark your calendars and show your support for the many organizations that help our community.

Free - Google class – Customer focus marketing for your business on Thursday, June 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. This will be held in the Chamber conference room.

Our next Rise Up with the Chamber will be on Thursday, July 14, from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m., here in our Chamber conference room and is sponsored by Trilogy Home Health Care. This is a great early morning wake up and a time to meet with friends and have a cup of coffee together before the busy day begins. Mark your calendars now to make sure that you don’t miss out on hearing some great information not only from Trilogy Home Health Care, but also three other guest speakers. Each guest will have 5 minutes to tell us about their business or organization and you may learn something about them that you might not have known.
