CLEWISTON -- The City of Clewiston has announced the resignation of Chief of Police Aaron Angell, effective June 1, 2021.

“Chief Angell has been a long-term law enforcement officer in this community, and he served as Police Chief since May, 2017 after serving in an interim capacity for a period prior. His service to the Clewiston community is appreciated and the City wishes him the best in his future endeavors," the press release states.

The city will begin a formal recruitment effort for a permanent replacement chief. Until then, City Police Sergeant Thomas P. Lewis will fill the role of Interim Chief of Police effective June 2, 2021.

In making the appointment, City Manager Randy Martin stated “I am confident that the citizens of Clewiston will be well-served with Tom’s law enforcement administration background. Interim Chief designate Lewis stated “I appreciate the trust and responsibility to lead the men and women of the agency in this capacity. We will remain focused on serving our citizens and providing the best service in South Florida.”
