CLEWISTON- The new, pandemic-induced, tradition of adopting a high school senior continues for the Clewiston High School class of 2021. Adopting a senior is a way of showing students support for all their hard work, especially while struggling through the complications that COVID-19 has thrust upon them. High school can be hard enough, without trying to avoid a deadly virus.

A Facebook page has been created for the community, where seniors introduce themselves in hopes that someone will adopt them.

“First I would like to start off by saying CONGRATS to all the 2021 Seniors! You made it. We all know the pandemic has made your Junior and Senior year adventurous to say the least,” the beginning announcement on the Facebook page starts out. “You made it through and we couldn’t be more proud of you! This group was made so that people in our community can show how proud we all are of you by sending encouragement and gifts. All Seniors please make and post and Amazon wishlist for things you may need to help you in college or your future endeavors. Make a post about yourself so we can get to know a little about you, along with a picture and your wishlist.”

The adoption process is simple. A senior, or their parent, posts a brief description on the Facebook page, and a sponsor can comment on the post to "adopt" the  senior of their choice. The sponsors will then message the senior, and send a gift or sentiment to brighten their day.

Seniors have already begun posting, and  adopters have been flocking to the page to pick a senior and join in the fun.
