CLEWISTON -- The Clewiston Nursing and Rehabilitation, 301 South Gloria Street, suffered a roof collapse during a storm on May 25, according to the Clewiston Police Department (CDP)
Clewison Police and the Hendry County Sheriff's Office assisted the Clewiston Fire Department with the complete evacuation of the residents of the nursing home. Approximately 100 residents were evacuated to John Boy Auditorium before being transfered to another nursing home. Those who needed special care were taken to an area hospital.
Resources wereg mobilized to provide adequate shelter, food and any special needs to ensure everyone was safe until the nursing home implemented their plan to transfer residents to a new home, according to the CPD.
"Although we have not determined the cause of the roof collapse, the National Weather Service has confirmed there was not a tornado," a CPD social media post stated. "There were no fatalities or serious injuries to any residents."
