Closing up your Florida home

GAINESVILLE — Getting ready to leave Florida and head back north? Well, before you lock the door to head out, it’s a good idea to pay attention to some important details.

First, know that you are leaving your home behind just as we begin the hurricane season. Have you secured someone to hang your shutters? Do you have the phone numbers of your neighbors, should you need to contact them directly if a storm hits our area? Have you thought about mold and how to prevent mold growth in our humid climate?

Getting organized and creating a plan takes time. UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County can help. Our “Closing Up Your Florida Home” classes show you the steps and tasks to close your seasonal home. Register for the March 29 or April 19 classes to save your seat: www.eventbrite.com/cc/151529.
