Community in shock after tragic, fatal accident

Posted

LABELLE — Family and friends of the Galindo family held a candlelight vigil Friday, Jan. 22, where the community held onto hope for the recovery of 13-year-old Kiana Galindo who was critically injured in the crash that killed her father and sister in Hendry County.

A vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Alva woman struck an SUV as it was backing out of the driveway of a friend’s home near the intersection of Fort Denaud Road on State Road 80, Wednesday, Jan. 20 around 10:30 p.m.

Reports from Florida Highway Patrol state none of the people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. Fourteen-year-old Aryana Galindo, and her father, Enedino Galindo, 42, were both ejected from the SUV and died at the scene. The Alva woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, along with 13-year-old Kiana.

Wife and mother of the victims, Brenda Galindo, said authorities told her the woman was driving about 108 miles per hour.

“On Wednesday night, Jan. 20, 2021, we received the worst news that our father Dino and my two sisters, Aryana and Keanna had been in a catastrophic car crash due to the negligence of a reckless driver. Dino and Aryana were killed instantly. Keanna was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma patient where she stayed at ICU until today,” Keanna’s sister, Anastasia Galindo, explained on Sunday. “This morning we received the most heartbreaking news from ICU trauma doctor telling us Keanna is no longer responding to medical care.”

“The pain of losing our father, Dino, and our two younger sisters is unthinkable, and there are no words or apologies that can begin to encompass this tragedy. Our family is destroyed and our hearts are forever broken,” Anastasia said.
