Community Services Department partners with United Way to help families receive Child Tax Credit

United Way will host a free Child Tax Credit Webinar on Wednesday, July 21 at 1 p.m.

WEST PALM BEACH — Beginning Saturday July 24, the Palm Beach County Community Services Department will partner with United Way of Palm Beach County to help families receive their child tax credit. United Way’s VITA Tax program volunteers will be available at various target areas centers throughout the county to assist families with filing their taxes or completing the online form with the Internal Revenue Service.

On July 15, 2021, many families began receiving the Advanced Child Tax Credit on a monthly basis. This Advanced Child Tax Credit is part of the new Presidential Administration’s American Rescue Plan. The plan increases the typical Child Tax Credit from $2,000 a year to up to $3,600 annually and families are able to choose if they will receive monthly installments or a lump sum when they file taxes.

Most Palm Beach County families will automatically receive the monthly installment. Families that have not filed taxes in 2019 or 2020 will not automatically receive the monthly installments. These families are eligible to receive the Advanced Child Tax Credit but will need to complete an online form with the Internal Revenue Service.

The Community Services Department and the United Way of Palm Beach County will host a free Child Tax Credit Webinar on Wednesday, July 21 at 1 p.m. to inform the public about:

• The expanded Child Tax Credit
• Who qualifies for the benefit
• How families can receive the credit
• How families can get help filing their taxes for free

The webinar will be moderated by James Green, Director of the Community Services Department. Tax information will be presented by a local expert, Vivian Pazmino, Director of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program with United Way of Palm Beach County.
