Corps moving forward on Bass Pro request for Okee-Tantie changes

Posted

OKEECHOBEE  -- There has been a little progress on the Bass Pro plan to turn the Okee-Tantie campground into a world-class fishing resort, according to a report from  Okeechobee County Attorney Wade Vose at the Feb. 11 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.

Bass Pro's plan for Okee-Tantie includes adding a second marina, which will be exclusive to resort guests. Access to the existing marina will remain open to the public. That plan means dredging which requires approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

"Contact with the corps is moving forward," said Vose. "It's going to be a lengthy process, but it's going in the right direction."

"A lot of different divisions within the corps are working in parallel looking at the information Bass Pro's engineer sent over," he explained.

He said the next step is to set up a Zoom call with Bass Pro and corps officials.
