County Coalition to meet Friday

WEST PALM BEACH – On Friday, Oct. 30, the County Coalition for Responsible Management of Lake Okeechobee, St. Lucie and the Caloosahatchee Estuaries, and the Lake Worth Lagoon” will be meeting for the first time since February of this year. The coalition will receive updates on Everglades restoration and Lake Okeechobee management from Colonel Andrew Kelly, Jacksonville District Commander US Army Corps of Engineers, the South Florida Water Management District, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

County Coalition to hold meeting in Palm Beach County with US Army Corps of Engineers, South Florida Water Management District, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to discuss Everglades Restoration and Lake Okeechobee.

The meeting will be held in the Vista Center, Palm Beach County (Hearing Room 1W-47), 2300 N. Jog Road, West Palm Beach. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.

The coalition consists of 11 members with Chair Karson Turner, Hendry County commissioner, and Vice-Chair Melissa McKinlay, Palm Beach County commissioner. Members also include commissioners from Martin, Glades, Highlands, Lee, Okeechobee, Osceola, St. Lucie, Charlotte, and Collier County.

The coalition was established in 2000 and commission members meet with South Florida congressional members annually in Washington, D.C. for the Everglades Caucus, co-chaired by Congressman Alcee Hastings and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart to discuss the coalition’s legislative priorities related to Everglades restoration.
