Couple accused of shooting up drugs in ballfield dugout

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After a member of the Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force allegedly witnessed two people using narcotics in the dugout of the baseball fields on Northeast 15th Avenue, they were charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On April 23 just after noon, the detective watched Megan Jones, 31, and Austin Adams, 25, for several minutes before approaching them. According to his report, the couple appeared to be just waking up. They told him they were homeless and had been sleeping when he arrived. The detective noticed blood on Adams’ arm and both of them had track marks down both sides of their arms. Inside the garbage can in the dugout, the detective found a black purse containing multiple syringes and spoons. The liquid inside one of the syringes tested positive for Oxycodone.

When the detective told the couple he knew the purse belonged to them because he saw them both shooting up, they reportedly told him he could not have seen that, because they just woke up. He notes they changed their story later though and said the purse did belong to them, but they threw it away when they arrived at the dugout the night before. When he told them he would be sending the items out to be tested for DNA, Jones reportedly said, “I know mine is on them, because I have used them.” Adams allegedly said, “My DNA shouldn’t be on them, because I washed the syringes out good after I used them.”

Because Jones is currently out of jail on bond, she was held without bond. Adams’ bond was set at $11,000.
