Our local Disabled American Veterans Chapter 144 recently held their Annual Installation Dinner at the Quart House in LaBelle. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a nonprofit charity that provides support for veterans and their families. They are known for helping more than 1 million veterans every year, giving 600,000 rides to medical appointments and assisting with over $200,000 in benefit claims. These services are offered by the DAV free of charge. Our local LaBelle Chapter #144 is one of 1,300 chapters working to empower our nation’s heroes and ensuring our nation keeps the promises made to them.

During the Installation Dinner, each officer repeated their oath of office, “Upon my word and honor, as a member of the Disabled American Veterans, in the presence of Almighty God and my comrades, and before the flag of my country, accept the office to which I have been elected or appointed. I promise to perform the duties of such office to the best of my ability. I pledge to act and conduct myself, in such a manner, at all times and places, as will only affect the good of the order. I promise to enforce and sustain the Constitution and Bylaws of this organization. When my successor has been duly elected, or appointed, and installed, I promise to surrender to him or her, all the property of the order, in my possession. All of which, I now affirm.”

Installed into the position of Commander was Steve Harn; Sr Vice Commander: Dave Johnson; Adjutant: Fran Koebert; Treasurer: Bob Kirkwood; Service Officer: David Abney; Judge Advocate: Bob Schall; Sargent at Arms: Bubba Synder; Membership: John McGlynchey, Charles Davis.

The DAV’s mission, “We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.”

If you are interested in joining or supporting the LaBelle DAV Chapter #144, meetings are held monthly from September through May, on the first Thursday of the month at the American Legion Hall located at 699 W. Hickapochee, in LaBelle.
