Decisions…discernment…FAITH!

The Weekly Clothesline

Posted

Sometimes it’s difficult to make decisions. The last time I had a major decision, I prayed about it and asked two of my closest friends for some clarity. A few days later, one of them came back with a passage from 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you. For power is made perfect in weakness.” I thought about its meaning. I reread it over and over again. It was still unclear. Then, a few days later, the same passage was one of our Sunday readings! My decision became clear. My fears became a strength. Funny how that happens…and it happens a lot when you have faith in God’s direction!

When we feel weak or lost or helpless…when we don’t know which way to turn, God always responds in some way. Of course, it goes without saying that we must seek His help and take the time to pray when we need help. But when we do, He will respond. If we take the time to notice, answers appear in many different ways.

Having faith, however, makes us vulnerable to the enemy’s attack. In Peter’s first letter, he writes: Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith (1 Peter 5:8-9a). God gives us His Spirit to deal with decisions and the enemy. So, embrace your faith. Your God will be your guide.
