Deputies, Code Enforcers board up nuisance property

Posted

Deputies and code enforcement officers today shuttered an East Naples residence which was declared a public nuisance because of continued resident complaints about illegal drug sales and other criminal activity as well as noise and unsanitary conditions.

The action is the result of continuing efforts by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Collier County Code Enforcement to monitor and correct quality of life issues and prevent illegal activity at 5329 Trammell St.

Since early December 2019, deputies have responded to 92 calls for service at the single-story residence in Naples Manor. The complaints, mostly from residents of the surrounding neighborhood, ranged from loud music to narcotics sales and drug overdoses, and from theft of electricity to disturbances. Residents also complained about noise, garbage and unsanitary conditions on the property which has no electricity or running water. Occupants ran generators for power.

Deputies and code enforcers boarded up and secured the property after the violations weren’t corrected based on an April 23 order by the Collier County Nuisance Abatement Board to vacate the property by April 30. The property will remain vacant for 364 days, according to the order.

The order states if the violations aren’t corrected within 30 days of the order, the county may take action using any method to bring the property into compliance. It also states the county may use assistance from CCSO and any local, state or federal court systems to enforce the order.

Since 2019, CCSO Vice and Narcotics Bureau detectives have executed three search warrants at the residence which have resulted in two dozen arrests, mostly for narcotic-related offenses. The searches also yielded firearms, ammunition, thousands of dollars in cash, and illegal drugs ranging from crack cocaine to fentanyl and from crystal methamphetamine to morphine.

Here’s a closer look at the search warrants:
On April 9, VNB detectives arrested six people on narcotics-related charges after executing a search warrant at the residence

On March 5, a search warrant at the residence netted 13 individuals on various drug possession and trafficking charges. One of the persons arrested, Joshua Basham, was arrested with trafficking amounts of narcotics to include fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine. The investigation revealed the residence was being used to traffic and distribute narcotics as well as a place where drug addicts could consume the narcotics. The search turned up packages of fentanyl and fentanyl powder, crack cocaine, numerous needles and methamphetamine smoking devices. Firearms and a knife were also found.

On Dec. 27, 2019, detectives arrested five people following a search warrant at the residence. Detectives also found multiple handguns and rounds of ammunition; $21,442 cash; narcotic paraphernalia; and illegal drugs including fentanyl, crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, ecstasy, oxycodone, Xanax, and Suboxone.
