Incumbent Donna Storter Long wins District 2 after recount

MOORE HAVEN -- Glades County Commissioner Donna Storter Long retained her District 2 seat by a narrow margin after a recount by the Glades County Supervisor of Elections Friday, Aug. 26.

Long ran as incumbant for the seat against challenger Jeff Barnes.

The initial count after the primary election Aug. 23, had Long in a four-point lead over Barnes, setting off a recount of the vote. By law, a manual recount is required if there is a 0.25% point difference in a race while a machine recount is required if there is a 0.5% difference.

Glades Supervisor of Elections Aletris Farnham said Aug. 29 the Canvassing Board held a machine and a manual recount of the votes which started at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26 and ended later in the day.

One undervote was found to be a vote for Barnes, changing the results from 981 to 982 for Barnes while Long's total remained the same at 985.

On Aug. 24, Glades County Supervisor of elections reported a 29% voter turnout, with 2,011 ballots counted and 6,891 registered voters.
