Downtown LaBelle filled with holiday cheer

LABELLE — The COVID-19 crisis has been difficult for everyone, including local, small businesses and nonprofits.

Thankfully, the 2020 holiday season has kicked off, and many of those looking for holiday decor and gifts for friends and family are focused on shopping locally. There are quite a few different options, from the local art gallery to the antique shops and even some events and activities in between.

LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation (LDRC) will start LaBelle’s Annual Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. followed by Downtown Live, a free street concert on Fort Thompson Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. LDRC is also selling secondhand Christmas trees as a fundraiser.

“There are a few more artificial Christmas trees available at the LDRC office for sale. Check out how good they look from one of our happy shoppers!!!” Kelly Boone, the director of LDRC, exclaimed in a Facebook post. “You can use it in the Christmas Parade happening Friday!”

Me & My Girls Antiques, located at 330 N. Bridge Street, will be holding their Annual Kids Christmas Shopping Event on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m. They will have a outdoor, kids-only booth filled with perfect gifts for the special adults in their lives, where items are all $5 and under. Parents can peruse inside the store, while their children pick make their purchases.

The Barron Park House Gallery has reopened, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., with new art displayed on the gallery walls and a tree full of handmade ornaments all from local artists. The gallery is housed in the historic Christie House that was built in 1914, located at 471 N. Lee St.

“We’re back! I’m so happy the Barron Park House Gallery is open again! We have lots of new art in the gallery and beautiful new things in the gift shop. Do your holiday shopping local this year. Small business really took a big hit due to COVID-19. Lets all do our best to help each other. Shop for unique ornaments for your tree or to give as gifts. All ornaments are just $5!!!” explained Barbara Swift, one of the talented artists at the gallery.

Looking to get some family portraits taken? Look no further than Cottage Under the Oaks. “We’re very excited to host Zeida Rabelo in our space for Christmas minis!! Please message her InstaGram or Facebook for more details. You can’t beat booking her deals,” said boutique owner Kylie Prevatt Hamil. “Oh, and a little elf told me there might be hot cocoa involved.” The holiday themed mini photography sessions must be scheduled in advance for Saturday, Dec. 3, or Monday, Dec. 7, at the cozy little shop that can be found at 95 E. Fort Thompson Avenue.

The Firehouse Community Theatre, 241 N. Bridge Street, has tickets on sale for their production of “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some).” Cindy Shough, longtime volunteer and wearer of many hats at the theater, urges everyone to enjoy the show. “Join us at for this fast-paced Christmas adventure. Dates: December 3, 4, 5, 6 & 10, 11, 12, 13. Showtimes: 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 2pm Sunday matinee. Tickets call: 863-675-3066 leave message and someone will call back.”

Downtown LaBelle will continue bustling with holiday cheer, and there are many more local businesses with so much to offer. Remember, support small businesses — shop local!
