Largo - Beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend, and retired teacher, Ellen Ross Jennings passed away peacefully on December 19, 2022 at 94 years of age in the company of her 2 daughters, Leslie and Rosalind Jennings.
Ellen was born and raised in South Georgia, later moving to Florida for the rest of her adult life. She will be remembered and loved for her true southern nature, adorable accent, sharp wit, enduring good health, youthfulness and physical flexibility!
Ellen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Librarianship from Florida State University in 1961. A retired lifelong educator, she taught high school English in Okeechobee, Florida before becoming a mother. She continued her teaching career later in life, instructing those earning their General Education Degree to inmates. She was dearly loved for her commitment to her students, evidenced in treasured letters that shared gratitude for her service.
Our mother was a devoted Democrat and strong supporter of democratic values such as fairness, justice, and equality for all. Her favorite pastime was spent reading and watching politics and news editorials. Ellen was an environmentalist who supported causes to protect and defend natural territories; she loved animals and nature.
Ellen’s warm spirit will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. Mom, we hold your unconditional love in our hearts forever!
Ellen was the widow of beloved Lester Windsor Jennings. Ellen is survived by her daughters Rosalind and Leslie, her granddaughters Caroline and Isabela, son-in-law Carlos, and her brothers and sister-in-laws Larry, Tommy/Phyllis, Freddy/Deana, Joann, and many nieces, nephews and friends. We love you!
