OKEECHOBEE — What is Thanksgiving all about? For most, it is a time when we are reminded to count our blessings, and to be thankful for the good things. Family, friends, community.
Last week, a blessing was shared with our office when Jim and Sallie Craig stopped by with boxes full of Thanksgiving food and even included a gift certificate with each box to buy a Thanksgiving turkey. They knew that if there were some families in need of a little help this Thanksgiving, that we would know just what to do.
Sheriff did know just what to do. A community partner, Helping People Succeed, works with families in our local area and are involved with helping our local children. When called, Tobi Kogut was in our office within minutes. She was ready to pick up and distribute the dinners to families who she knew would be blessed right on time.
Being able to help facilitate and bring the two partners in our community together was as rewarding as it gets. So when we are thinking of our blessings this Thanksgiving, let’s count our generous and caring community. It is like none other. We are always impressed and humbled by the kindness we encounter.
