Florida team competes in NAILE

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Congratulations to the team of Florida 4-H members who competed in the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) 4-H Dairy Judging Contest on Nov. 7.
 
The team, including Rebecca Holcomb of Hillsborough County 4-H, Luke Larson and Jenna Larson, both of Okeechobee County 4-H and Johanna Heijkoop of Sumter County 4-H, competed representing Florida in the yearly contest, hosted by the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
 
Together, they placed fourth in reasons, sixth in the Guernsey division, seventh in the Brown Swiss and Jersey divisions, eighth in the Ayrshire and Holstein divisions, and eighth overall, with 15 teams and 48 individuals competing in this year’s contest.
 
Individually, Rebecca Holcomb placed ninth in the Guernsey division, tenth in the Ayrshire division, tenth in reasons, in the top 20 in the Brown Swiss division and 17th overall, as the highest scoring individual on the team. Jenna Larson placed ninth in reasons, 10th in the Guernsey division, and in the top 20 in the Brown Swiss and Jersey divisions. Luke Larson placed sixth in the Holstein division, and Johanna Heijkoop placed in the top 20 for reasons. They are coached by Gene Holcomb.
 
Hosted annually during the dairy shows, the NAILE hosts invitational contests for dairy judging, dairy quiz bowl, and new this year, a dairy educational experience challenge. In Florida, selected youth compete on the national level at assorted national-level dairy events each year.
