BELLE GLADE- Former Glades Central Raiders baseball coach Rene Leon Jr. will be leading the Glades Day Gators in their upcoming season.

Leon will be the new varsity head coach for Glades Day baseball in the 2021-22 school year.

“It feels good to be the new head varsity baseball coach for Glades Day,” said Leon after the announcement. “Glades Day has always had a great baseball program. It was always a tough match-up when we played against the Gators when I was the Glades Central coach. I’m extremely excited for the upcoming season. We will compete at a high level and we will enjoy every bit of it.”

During his time as the Glades Central baseball coach, Rene helped guide the team to their first ever sweep of Glades Day.

On April 10 2019 Leon’s Raiders held on to get the 5-4 win over the Gators, completing the sweep following their 9-6 win on March 5, 2019.

“I feel like we have the right pieces to be able to compete for a district championship this season,” said Leon of his goals for the team. “I will make sure that I put all my players in the best position to succeed on and off the field. I’m truly blessed to be in this position and I can’t wait to meet my players.”
