Four-story hotel proposed in LaBelle

Posted

LABELLE – A Holiday Inn is planned in LaBelle on State Road 80, east of Tractor Supply, according to information shared at the LaBelle Local Planning Agency meeting on Nov. 16.

The four-story hotel will not include a restaurant or a bar. It will have a swimming pool.

The 2-acre site is currently undeveloped. The building will be centrally located on the site to minimize impacts to surrounding properties as well as access from SR 80. A sidewalk is proposed to connect to the existing sidewalk.

The front of the building will not be facing SR 80. A landscape buffer is required. An 8-foot wall will be required on the north side of the building.

LPA members said issues to be resolved include availability of water and sewer and fire protection.

Gracie Morton said she lives behind this property. “My backyard has a pool and I have grandchildren.” She said she is not against a hotel but is concerned about windows looking out on her backyard. She asked if they could not put any windows on the north side of the building which would overlook her property.

The planners agreed to recommend approval of the amendment to the comprehensive plan to allow the hotel. The project will go through several more steps in the approval process.
