Lady Brahmans now District 14-4-A champions

April 28, 1995

The Okeechobee High School varsity Lady Brahman softball team became the District 14 champions Friday after they defeated the Greyhounds of Lincoln Park Academy 3-0.

Okeechobee started the game by scoring one run in the first inning.

Lady Brahman Rachel Lowe was hit by Lincoln Park Academy’s Karen Hastings and that earned her first base.

Joy Wilkerson smacked a grounder to third basemen Amy Cokely who threw Wilkerson out at first, but Lowe advanced to second base.

Traci Brown stepped up and hit a grounder to first basemen Kim VanEtten for the second out. Lowe stole third and then advanced to home on a wild pitch giving the Lady Brahmans a one-run lead.

The second run to come in was in the fourth inning.

Okeechobee’s Lissette Deschamps got to first base on an overthrow which brought Denise Hardy to the plate.

Hardy hit a single a single to right field, advancing Deschamps to third.

Kim Brown then hit a grounder to first base for the first out that gave Deschamps a chance at home, bringing the score up to 2-0.

Greyhound’s Hastings struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Finally, the Lady Brahmans scored their last run in the sixth inning when Traci Brown scored.

Traci got on first base by an overthrow, Then Deschamps hit a fly to short stop, Michelle Young, creating the first out.

Hardy then hit to the pitcher and was thrown out, but advanced Traci to second base.

That brought out Kim Brown who was walked by Hastings. Next Traci scored on a wild pitch making it 3-0.

The winning pitcher was Kim Brown who was pitching to Wilkerson.
