FORT MYERS — All 13 graduates in Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Radiologic Technology Class of 2020 have achieved a 100% pass rate on their national certifying exam while overcoming many additional challenges created by COVID-19.

“Throughout this year, the Radiologic Technology Program’s faculty, clinical partners and, especially, students have never given up and persevered through what has been an extremely difficult time for everyone,” said James Mayhew, program director, FSW radiologic technology. “These students had to do their training remotely until they were permitted to return to campus and clinical sites to complete their competency training. They were then required to be at their clinical site five days a week for eight hours a day in order to complete the requisite number of hours. Additionally, the testing sites we use to take our board exams were closed, and it took two to three months to schedule their exams. To have this group all pass their certifying exam on their first attempt, I have never been so proud.”

Over the past 15 years, FSW’s Radiologic Technology Program graduates have maintained a 99.7% pass rate for the national certification exam.

A Florida license is obtained when the graduate passes the national certifying exam, giving the graduate the ability to obtain gainful employment in Florida. Numerous FSW graduates have also gone on to obtain licenses in other states as well.
